In a world that has long become the battleground between Reapers and
the High Order - without most of the population even knowing it - Reaper
Zion (Justin Price) has gone into emplay of Dominion (Amin Joseph), also
known as Death, to collect souls for him, and so Zion on order
telepathically makes people commit (mass-)murder. As compensation, Zion's
promised that his dead wife's returned to him - but Dominion isn't too
much in a hurry to fulfill his promise, instead asks more and more from
Zion, like to guard a briefcase with an eternal life giving drug from
falling into the hands of the High Order ...
In the meantime, young Mindy (Carolina Hildebrand) is the only one who
survives the massacre at a diner she works at, but the weirdest thing
about this event is that after the shooter has killed himself, deceased
superstar Kalypso (Alisondra Alexander) enters the scene, as if to inspect
the shooter's work, and she seems to be pleased, This gets Mindy on the
trail of the Reapers, and thus wants to join the High Order - until she
learns that organisation has ulterior motives as well ...
Now I will admit, this synopsis is only an incomplete attempt to
summarize the plot of Reapers, especially since this film is based
on an elaborate mythology, tells its story from various points of view
with many narrative threads, features a large cast and spans three
continents - and for that, Reapers is at times narratively a bit
confusing ... which though doesn't matter much, as there seems to be
happening something exciting or at least interesting on the screen
throughout, and the movie's filled with many a first-rate action scene,
quite some violence, a fair bit of suspense, all rolled into a concept
that sure enough is engaging, and carried by quite a dynamic directorial
effort. So even if the story might be a bit hard to follow, this is a
wildly entertaining movie.
