An anthology collecting the first five shorts about Raven James (Daniel
Harris), a paranormal investigator not so much by choice but by destiny.
He has inherited the talent to talk with spirits from his mother, but what
some see as a gift is a torment for Raven: In his eyes, many of the dead
who try to communicate with him are just attention whores, people who have
made mistakes in life, but now want to correct them - through him - in
afterlife. And even if Raven is not avert to helping as such, there are
just so many he has the capacity to help - and yet, every dead in town
seems to long for his assistance. Thus Raven consumes enormous amounts of
alcohol, to at least block out most of the voices raining in on him. It
works to some extent, but leaves him a wreck - who still takes on almost
unsurmountable tasks ...
The films collected in that volume are
The Waiting
Room, Demon
in the Waiting Room, A
Hot Summer Chill, Reflections
(this one being a sort-of origins story) and Mourning
in the Cemetery, a quintet of films that form a very solid
introduction to Raven and his world, and leave one wanting more - which
one can actually get in written form, with the novel Drowning Demons
...
