A quintet of youngsters - perfect couple Heather (Hayley Derryberry)
and clean-cut John (Paul J. Porter), not so perfect couple Summer (Hannah
Landberg) and redneck Adam (Josh Hammond), and wallflower Julie (Jessica
Sonneborn) - decide to go to the country for a bit of hunting, fishing,
swimming and partying at a cabin in the woods in the middle of nowhere,
USA. At first everything goes great, the locals are a likable bunch,
doing their best to squash backwoods clichés by making fun of them, the
weather is nothing but nice, they run across hippie-ish photographer David
(Brandon Stacy), who might just be a perfect fit for Julie (if it wasn't
for his sexual challenges), and the only thing that might spoil their fun
is a bear that was witnessed in the neighbourhood - but bears don't attack
humans just like that, and in the remote case they might, the friendly
neighbourhood sheriff (Brian Reece) has provided our heroes with a bear
trap even ... and then, John and Summer go missing together. Now that's
troubling especially for Heather, because all evidence suggests that there
might be a sexual undercurrent to this - and yes there was, actually, but
when Heather and Julie find Summer murdered, they wish it was just that,
and everything sure as hell points to John being the killer ... and that
he might have the rabies, too. But then David, who has so far been the
nicest guy on earth, starts to behave increasingly weird - and once
Heather has been left pretty much the last girl standing, she has to
realize there's something much more sinister and dangerous going on than
her boyfriend having turned into a homicidal beast ... Put down
in writing, Rabid Love might sound like your typical slasher movie
- but on film, it actually transcends genre boundaries inasmuch as the
story does relie on original plottwists more than your usual formula and
takes its time to develop the story rather than just throw the characters
into predictable situations - but that said the film's still thense and
suspenseful enough to keep the audience interested. And
combine this with a bunch of interesting and well-written characters (not
exactly something the genre is usually big on) played by a very competent
ensemble cast and a subtle enough directorial effort, and you've got
yourself a pretty good movie!
