A woman (Brigid Macaulay) wakes up in what appears to be the remnants of a blood bath, her naked body covered in gore ... which doesn't upset her half as much as it's supposed to, and that very evening, she hits the bars again, very obviously trying to pick up a guy (or girl for that matter) ... and she is successful, and is soon in a (sexual) relationship with the man of her choice. Eventually, she meets a girl who's in a relationship by far not as fulfilling as hers that's ruled by violence. She soon gets realy intimate with the girl as well, and helps her getting back at her boyfriend. However our heroine has a special condition, and soon her boyfriend, her new girlfriend and that girl's boyfriend end up dead ... but due to this condition, dead's only the beginning ...

For sure not your everyday horror movie, Progeny denies its audience dialogue and tells its story entirely in pictures and soundscapes - and it works as the pictures are disturbing and the soundscape is fittingly haunting, and both, combined with fast paced and often associative editing help to move the story along. And add to that a first rate cast and some fittingly gruesome yet never gratuituous gore effets, and you've got yourself a very weird yet entirely wonderful short!
