It's closing time at a local bar, and a mysterious but well-spoken
stranger, Emmett (Aaron Ginn-Forsberg), invites the waiters - hick Brandon
(Michael Jason Allen), promiscuous Randi (Stephanie Cunningham) and good
girl Trish (Kristin Leigh) - over to his house for a few more drinks. At
Emmett's place in the middle of nowhere, our threesome more and more come
to conclusion that their host and his consort Lydia (Davina Joy) are a
little weird with their Nietzschean philosophy and their over-emphasis on
their hedonistic lifestyle, but hey, there's also free booze, free illegal
drugs, both Emmett and Lydia seem to be interested in Randi and Brandon,
respectively, and even good girl Trish finds a friend in another guest to
the house, Shea (Josh Bingenheimer), the archetypical good guy student. Eventually,
Emmett retreats to one of the rooms with Randi for you-know-what, and when
he later returns alone, nobody's too surprised - she had quite a bit to
drink. After some non-descriptive meat for dinner, Lydia takes Brandon to
her room, whips him into a rage and bites him to death when he tries to
take control and rape her. Trish and Shea immediately want to call the
cops, after all, Brandon tried to rape the girl and was killed in self
defense, but Emmett and Lydia hold them back - thing is, the house is full
of illegal drugs, probably even their bodies, including Brandon's and
Lydia's, so even though it was a clear case of self defense, it could get
all of them in trouble. So why not sleep it over? Once in their room
Trish and Shea almost immediately have sex, but the next morning, they
realize they might be in a jam and want to make an escape ... but when
they want to pick up Randi, they find her dead, murdered, and her leg cut
off - could it have been last night's meat? Everything culminates in a
final confrontation with Emmett, who offers them to eithger join him and
embark on a voyage of pure and ruthless hedonism, or ... and he introduces
them to Patrick (Ben Foster), a man half tortured to death because he
opposed Emmett ...

Nice! Predatory Instinct is one of these films you always
think you know what's going to happen next - and the film plays with
exactly that perception, and leads you into dead ends ever so often. It
starts with the opening scene really (a bunch of hunters being attacked by
some sort of animal man) that suggests a werewolf story, later Emmett's
demeanour is weirdly reminiscent of old world vampires, yet later a murder
is explained away as self defense, and ultimately everything was just a
product of frivolous decadence. But through all of this, the film never
once loses the ball, despite the audience's deception itmanages to tell
its story stringently and as logically as possible. Which might leave one
question open: Is it a likely story as such? NMope - but it's a darn
good thriller!
