From a friend, Beth (Kara Killmer] learns that her boyfriend James (Ben
Elliott) has gone missing, and that the police are also inquiring about
Brandon (Mike Armstrong jr) ... which is probably Beth's worst nightmare
come true - because you see, a year or so ago, she and James drugged
Brandon and buried him up to his neck in sand on the beach. Then they made
love to celebrate their prank - not anticipating the incoming flood of
course, which before long drowned Brandon. Of course, for Beth this is
only a bad memory (as of now), but James has already been abducted by a
killer in a Marilyn Monroe wig (Omar Medina) who presently bakes him to
death in a car spray painting booth ... Prank is a
rather typical slasher premise bared to the bone: The typical prank that
leaves someone dead but later turns against those who have pulled it at
the hands of a serial killer. But while many a slasher movie outstay their
welcome while still setting things up, this short remains highly effective
throughout because it's unforgivingly brutal (though there is no actual
gore as such) and thanks to clever pacing and insertion of flashbacks and
the like, it creates its own nightmarish atmosphere ... and it actually
makes you longing for more (which, let's face it, isn't true for too many
slashers) - let's just hope a feature version will be made out of this one
(there are plans, actually) ... And if this has whetted your
mouth at all, you might actually watch the movie right now and for free: http://vimeo.com/44686726
