A detective (Amit Ansshu) tries to track down the killer of young and promising actress Shwetha (Indumathi Manohar), using rather unorthodox methods doing so, questioning many a person connected to Shwetha, but soon zeroing in on the slightly arrogant director (Salmin Sheriff) of her latest film Pitch Dark. And it's true, the director was less than thrilled that Shwetha got on a little too well with her co-star (Vijay Krishna), who's supposed to be the killer in their movie, who kills her in the movie like Shwetha later died in real life ...

But that's only one level of reality, the other is that of veteran horror writer Rajiv Dey (Abhijit Ganguly), who has picked up writing a novel, Pitch Dark, revolving around Shwetha's murder that has been started by up-and-coming writer Indranil Deashi (Amjad Prawej), who has died under mysterious circumstances though ...

A 'Pitch-Dark' Diorama is a highly interesting and also very enjoyable and enjoyably tense psycho thriller that doesn't only veer off narratively several times to keep things interesting, but also is carried by a narrative structure that's not exactly linear, and that doesn't only cut back and forth between different levels of time but also different levels of reality, which makes the whole thing a rather mesmerizing puzzle that's totally left for the viewer to solve (or not solve, it's really more the enjoyment of the story than the solution that seems to count here. But that said, what really glues the viewer to the screen is not a simple game of jigsaw puzzle, but a story that is well told, that manages to create extreme tension in its rather slow narrative approach, and that makes the viewer use one's imagination to read between the lines and come to one's own conclusions. And add to that a very decent cast, and you've got yourself a very unusual but nevertheless gripping thriller.
