Megan (Mandy Evans) seems to have a perfect life, she's got a loving
husband, Ben (Jim True-Frost) with a good enough job so they can afford a
nice house, two cars and all that, plus she has a sweet little son Liam
(Griffin Robert Faulkner), so she really can't complain - but she's got a
little habit that might be a bit of a threat to everything she lives for:
She hooks up with strangers via Tinder and has meaningless sex with them -
in whatever place is available, be it a motel room or a car or wherever.
Main thing is that she plans it around her duties at home, which she
manages most of the time - but it has become that much of an addiction
that she starts to slip ... Now the premise of Pickup
might suggest something sensationalist or even a bit sleazy (after all,
this is about an active nymphomaniac), but thanks to a very subtle yet
sympathetic script as well as directorial effort, one really gets a
rounded picture of the situation as a whole, and Mandy Evans (who of
course also wrote and produced) gives a relateable, even likeable central
performance, taking her far beyond being just a clichée. Well worth a
watch.
