Rae (Mattea Benz) is new to the online dating game, but in Ian (Douglas
Reese) she seems to have found a nice enough guy to let him invite her to
his place. Ian seems to be, well, socially awkward: He's already a bit
drunk when she gets there, his manners aren't always spot-on, he really
likes to boast about his professional successes, even though they sound
made up, and his sexual experience, but once Rae asks for details, he gets
all evasive. But Rae figures behind all his pretense, Ian is a really
insecure but also very cute guy, which is only emphasized by the fact that
he picks up his kitten Pazuzu every time she tries to get physically close
to him, in a weird effort to ward her off. However, Rae is not one to give
up easily, and eventually, she offers him to fuck her plain out - which is
when he finally drops the bombshell ... Pazuzu is a film
everybody who had an awkward date even once in his/her life can probably
relate to, it's full of little embarassing moments, conversations that
shouldn't go the way they go, situations that are totally misunderstood by
both, gestures that come out all wrong and the like - and that's what
makes this movie so accessible, as until its dramatic bombshell at the
climax, the whole thing remains very light-footed, even slightly amusing.
And the fact that Mattea Benz and Douglas Reese (also very possibly the
only persons on set during the entire shoot) not only fill their roles but
also develop the awkward chemistry needed for a film like this certainly
doesn't hurt. Recommended.
