10 years ago, Reverend Smith (Frank Bliss) mutilated and killed
himself, and while dying shot dead his own sister (Collette England) with
the words "Death to thou who hates" - and all that remained from
that gruesome scene was a grotesque guitar ... that 10 years later made it
into a pawn shop where a heavy metal guitarist and killed the pawn shop
owner to get his hands on it. At the first gig he plays it, he suddenly
pulls a gun and kills a couple of people before committing suicide. His
last words? "Death to thou who hates" of course. The guitar
eventually lands in music store owner Grady's (Gordon Price) hands, who
plays a tune on it, then kills his girlfriend, an IRS agent and an
obnoxious customer before making a getaway. Detective Young (Dave
Meadows) has been involved in all three cases, and the first one has hit
him especially hard because the reverend's sister had been his partner. He
starts to believe the guitar involved in all three cases is possessed by
the devil ... but his current partner (Diane Sokolowich) thinks he's going
crazy, plays a tune on the guitar (despite Detective Young urging her not
to), then goes out and shoots a few people with the words "Death to
thou who hates". Weirdly enough she cannot bring herself to shoot an
Islam preacher who only preaches love, but she's quick to shoot herself. This
of course only reaffirms Young's theory - but what good does that do, as
the guitar has been taken from the crime scene by a person or persons
unknown, which of course means only more bloodshed ... Basically,
Music Store Massacre is a low budget supernatural slasher that does
live up to its promise: There's plenty of mayhem and gore in this one,
it's suitably sick at times, and set to a heavy metal score one might
expect from a movie about a killer guitar. The concept is of course rather
over-the-top, but that's what true fans have come to love about indie
horrors anyways, so no complaint there, and the whole thing moves along
rather smoothly, and is directed with quite a bit of style rather than
just concentrating on pools of blood. But most of all, this movie is good
genre fun, really! If that's got you at all interested, you
