Mike Case (Les Mahoney) is a down-and-out private detective with a bit
of a drinking problem who works and sleeps in his car, and who really
seems to have reached the end of his line - when Victoria Billows (Devai
Pearce) shows up and offers him a handsome sum of money if he finds her
husband Lennie (Scott Ganyo). Now the cynic that life has made him to be,
Mike doesn't accept immediately, thinking the case beneath him ... but he
could really use the woman's money, so after a bit of haggling, he agrees
and knocks on a few doors - but it seems either nobody has seen Lennie, or
everybody's hidind something. Mike suspects the latter, but when both a
thug he knows (Dale Shane) beats him up to lay off Lennie, and the
policewoman he sleeps with (Debra Mayer) to get his hands on some
classified information, threatens him with jail if he doesn't quit
"her" case, he actually figures he'd bail ... but Victoria just
won't let him, and he could really use the money right now. And then a few
thugs beat up Bootsie (Atoy Wilson), Mike's best friend and informer, and
now the case has become personal ... Mike Case in: The Big
Kiss Off is basically a loving but also tongue-in-cheek hommage to old
school film noir of the hardboiled detective variety, with more than a few
nods to the classic The Big Sleep. That's not to say the film can't
stand on its own feet, because it can, and it tells a very entertaining
story - now sure, the story doesn't always make perfect sense (at least
upon first viewing), but in all honesty, neither does The Big Sleep
- which is where this comes full circle, you will probably like Mike
Case in: The Big Kiss Off more if you understand the references, but
it's well enough paced, acted and directed that it works as a slightly
tongue-in-cheek thriller or crime comedy for everyone. This
