It's been ages since Jayden (Douglas Reese) has been back to Maysville.
Back when they were young, their dad used to document everything he (in
flashbacks played by Jayden Riggs) and his sister (Tesla Renée Gray,
Rylee Riggs in flashbacks) on his video camera - which got from annoying
to scary eventually, all leading up to some terrible family secret nobody
talks about anymore ... which is also the reason Jayden has skipped town
years ago and broken off all communications with his family, including his
sister - and then his sister calls, threatening to kill herself. Now
despite Jayden's assertions he won't fall for her emotional blackmail,
despite warnings from a sinister woman (Joi Itapson) that trigger some
well-hidden memories, it's not long before Jayden shows up on his sister's
doorstep - to find out she has turned into a charming and level-headed
girl, actually. But there's something in Maysville that's not likely to
let him go - and it's not of the benevolent kind ... Maysville
is not a movie for the impatient, as it builds up its story only very
gradually, and in many long and static takes - which one has come to know
and expect from filmmaker Douglas Reese. But if you're in for this, these
long takes develop an atmosphere all of their own, are not only enjoyably
open to interpretation but also likely to build up suspense if you're
ready to dive into them. And as per usual, Reese has found a pretty strong
cast to help him achieve bringing his story across. Interesting to say
the least.
