Ida Teeter (Angela Bettis) is a lesbian entomologist who just likes to
bring her work home, and thus shares her appartment with quite a number of
rare insects. And one day, she is sent a big, menacing insect by an
anonymous donor, which soon enogh escapes its pod.
But while she has no problems bringing bugs home, she does have
problems bringing girls home, and thus seems a bit like an old spinster
who is entirely uncomfortable around lovely ladies ... that is until she
meets Misty Falls (Erin Brown, the former Misty Mundae), a young woman
that seems to be fascinated by her and even likes her insects ... and thus
she soon moves in with Ida - much to the dismay of Ida's landlady Ms
Beasley (Marcia Bennett), who had her reservations about the bugs ... but
now lesbians too, this is going too far. Soon, she gives Ida an ultimatum
to move out in 7 days ...
What nobody does know though is that Misty was bitten by the escaped
insect and is now able to grow tentacles and the like should need arise
... and one day, when she meets Ms Beasley in the hallway all alone, need
arises and she transforms, making the woman fall down the stairway to her
death in shock ...
Eventually, Misty can no longer keep her secret - that she is a
half-mutated insect thanks to the insect bite and has the insect's
offspring - from Ida, especially after she has killed Ida's bet friend
(Jesse Hlubik) & ultimately she helps the insect bite and impregnate
Ida as well.
But being pregnant, half-mutated insects doesn't end the world for the
two lovers, actually they are happier than ever and looking forward to
their offspring .- boy or girl ? Probably a few hundred of each.
But who was the anonymous donor of the insect in the first place ?
It was Misty's father, who found out his daughter had an unhealthy
fascination for Ida long ago and now wanted to get rid of Ida using the
insect ... a plan that has definitely backfired.
Sick Girl is nothing more than a cheap monster/exploitation
story that you might find on the shelves of your local video rental by the
dozen. Thing is, I think is was supposed to be something bigger, to fit in
with the high concepts of the Masters of Horror series (that
were only rarely fullfilled anyways). Actually only the surprise happy
ending and the fact that the story is about lesbians signal any departure
from the familiar monster movie formula, which somehow doesn't quite
suffice. What's really obnoxious about the episode though is Angela Bettis
annoying performance that seems to be indecisive between broad comedy and
deep emotions, and thus never quite manages to carry the episode like it's
supposed to.
That said, it's not all bad if you're into cheap monster/exploitation
flicks, but it's not really worth watching either.
