Pretty much out of the blue, Lisa (Annabel Barrett) and Adam (Ignacyo
Matynia), total strangers to one another, find themselves locked up in
what's best described as a dog kennel, with collars round their necks
chained to walls, and they're fed what looks like dogfood once a day by a
masked kennel master and his equally masked goons, and let out for a walk
only occasionally, with their collars featuring a mechanism to strangle
them via remote control should they try to escape - in other words they
are treated like dogs. They have no idea why, or who their captors are,
but having no-one to relie on but one another brings them closer and
closer to each other, and eventually they start to plan making an escape
together. But when Adam actually manages to overcome one of their guards,
Lisa knocks him out ... because you see, Lisa's actually part of the crew
led by Doctor Fischer (Katy Dore) that conducts an experiment on human
behaviour under extreme conditions, and she works very close with her
keepers George (Ryan Q. Tran) and Erika (Shay Denison) when it comes to
keeping Adam in check. Thing is, Lisa has a hidden agenda of her own, and
it seems it's no coincidence she's put in the kennel with Adam, who isn't
as much a stranger to her as she's to him, something which might actually
jeopardize the experiment. But what's a much bigger threat to not only the
experiment but also Lisa and Adam and everyone else involved is that
George isn't quite as stable as he ought to be, and he has taken to
drugging Lisa and Adam and done other things to corrupt the experiment's
results ... Of course, the premise of this movie, as
interesting as it might seem, takes quite a bit of suspension of
disbelief, but at the same time the concept does provide a good mystery,
with its slow resolution, including the rather unexpected plot
developments, serving well as the movie's backbone. And a directorial
effort that's at times painfully clinical gives the film the proper
atmosphere of doom, with strong performances by all involved grounding the
movie, and making this one cool piece of genre cinema.
