Bertie Wooster's (Hugh Laurie) aunt Dahlia (Brenda Bruce) invites
Bertie to her estaqte, mainly because she wants Bertie's ingenious valet
Jeeves (Stephen Fry) to sort out a few things in her life. But Bertie will
have nothing of the sort and tries to sort out things himself, for his
aunt and her hubby (Ralph Michael), for his friend Tuppy (Robert Daws) and
his secret love, Bertie's cousin Angela (Amanda Elwes) and for his cousin
Gussie (Richard Garnett) and his secret love Madeline (Francesca
Folan) ... but unfortunately the only thing he can think of in each case
is going on hunger strike - bad enough an idea as it is, but even worse
since aunt Dahlia has the best cook in the region if not in all of the UK,
Anatole (John Barrard), a Frenchman with a temperament - and when he
learns that nobody's eating his food, he gets so angry that he quits his
job - spoiling everything for everyone even more ... and as a consequence,
aunt Dahlia sends Bertie packing ...
As with the series as a whole, this episode is a bit childish and lacks
directorial inventiveness - but it's very well played and quite amusing
(if not hilariously funny) at the same time.
