Important note: For the next week, starting
Monday 3/12 till Saturday 3/17, 2012, all profits from the rental and sale
of Island
of the Cannibal Death Gods through our website www.cannibaldeathgods.com
will be donated equally between Scares that Care and the Animal Rescue Mission. Take the time to donate a couple of
bucks to two worthy causes. You'll also get to see a cheesy B-Horror film
that after watching, you'll, at the very least, appreciate other movies
more.

Steve McNeal (Steven Brack) considers himself to be the epitomy of a
slick agent, so when one of his top clients, action star Dave (Keenan
Parker) had a fall-out with his wife (after cheating on her), he decides
to take him and his p.a./brother-in-law Derek (Derek McLean) on a fishing
trip - also to pitch a new reality show to Dave. Now a fishing trip
suggests peace and tranquility ... but no such thing, Dave and Derek don't
get along that well, everybody hates Steve - and Robin (Florence LeMerle),
the captain of their boat is a tough-as-nails bitch who won't take shit
from any of them. Sea-sickness of course doesn't help anyone, either. And
then there's this gang of thugs Robin has beaten up at a bar who come
after her for revenge. Oh, and what about these tales about local
cannibals? Eventually, our heroes come across the boat of the thugs, but
find it empty. But there are traces of blood. Steve and Dave want to
hightail it immediately, but Robin insists they put at least a little
effort into finding the crew of the other vessel. When doing so, Robin and
Dave, who make up one survey team, are almost immediately captured by -
well, someone. The other survey team, Derek and Steve are luckier: They
find one of the thugs. He seems to have lost his mind, but they understand
him at least clearly enough to know whatever happened to his mates has to
do with the drumbeats they are hearing continuously. Following the sound
they find a tribe of sexy young women wearing barely anything performing
some weird rites, and they more and more come to the conclusion these must
be the cannibals everybody's talking about - especially when they eat up
Dave before their very eyes. Of course, now they try their best to get
away, but ... Click
here to open the Spoiler Pop-up! The
cannibal genre as such (at least as introduced by the Italian film
industry in the 1970's) is actually a genre that allows only very little
in terms of variation - which is probably why the genre has run its course
by the early 1980's. For the most part, this (very) low budget movie
follows the rules, too - and Jeff Freeman knows his source material well
enough to keep the dead genre alive -, only adding a certain degree of
(media) satire to the mix to keep things different and interesting. What
really makes the film though is its punchline, which might not be 100%
original, but it's extremely well-handled (in both direction and acting)
to give the movie some depth rather than come off as a moronic joke. In
all, what I'm trying to say is: This film is fun! Recommended. Note:
