Once again, National Security Agent Gentaro (Shoji
Ishibashi) and his giant robot friend Iron King - who is umbeknowest to
him actually his klutzy colleague Goro (Mitsuo Hamada) - fight and chase
off a Titanian monster, Cricketton, a giant space bug that can shoot its
limbs at its enemies but still retain control over them. This is much to
the dismay of the Titanian leader, who then decides to bodysnatch Goro.
Evil Goro almost immediately attacks Gentaro, but somehow Gentaro and his
colleague Noriko
(Chiaki Sakyo) manage to tie him up just in time - but when Cricketton
attacks again, Goro manages to free himself and turns into Iron King again
... but evil Iron King (which is signified by his black cape resembling
the capes of the Titanians). Together, Cricketton and Iron King destroy
half of Tokyo before the space bug leaves the rest of the city to evil
Iron King, which quite understandably urges the army to attack - but army
officials can for the time being be dissuaded from destroying Iron King,
who soon enough runs out of water (his weakness) anyways and disappears.
Soon enough, Gentaro and Noriko find Goro in the streets of Tokyo half
dying of thirst, and suddenly they realize that he must indeed by Iron
King.
Soon, Gentaro and Noriko bring Goro/Iron King to his creator Professor
Tsushima (Hajime Izu) and persuade him to seperate Iron King from Goro to
at least save Goro's life - but something in the process goes wrong and
Goro dies - which is when Cricketton attacks once again, with Tokyo being
defenseless this time safe for Gentaro and his steel whip, but then Noriko
goes for a long shot and feeds dead Goro some water ... and wouldn't you
know it, Goro comes back from the dead, is now no longer possessed by a
Titanian, and soon enough he engages in battle against Cricketton and
destroys the space bug. Then he and Gentaro go against the Titanian
mothership and destroy that one too ... and the world (well, japan at
least) is once again saved.
Quite amusing two-part finale to Iron King's Titanian
storyline and to the series as a whole: The guest monster Cricketton is
suitably wacky, there are many scenes of amusing (if not all that
convincing) destruction, and evil Iron King (in black cape) is a hoot all
in itself. Of course, on close inspection the whole thing is childish and
silly, but hey, one usually doesn't watch Japanese giant robot TV-series
for philosophical revelations does one ?
