The Shirunai Clan have yet another giant robot attack Gentaro (Shoji
Ishibashi), agent for Professor Tsushima, and his guardian angel,
giant robot Iron King. This time around it's Devil Tiger, a robot that has
a drill attached to its head so it can move underground (though
unfortunately, very little use is made of this talent) and a flamethrower
attached to its arm. And while it's Iron King who does most of the
fighting, it's Gentaro with his whip who chases Devil Tiger away when Iron
King runs low on water (which keeps it running).
Later, Gentaro and his friends, Yukiko (Chieko
Morikawa) and klutzy fellow agent Goro (Mitsuo Hamada), who unbeknowest to
Gentaro is really Iron
King, find abode in a Buddhist temple, but unfortunately the priest is a
member of the Shirunai Clan, and even more unfortunately, so is Yukiko, so
the two of them stage Yukiko's kidnapping to lure Gentaro into a trap ...
but Gentaro doesn't fall for it (even though he has no idea yet that
Yukiko is in league with the baddies). Goro on the other hand does and
goes on a rescue mission on his own - which causes Gentaro to intervene
after all. Of course, in the end, Gentaro and Goro/Iron King manage to
defeat Devil Tiger and free Yukiko, but not without destroying a city, and
at the end Gentaro muses if the price of saving the girl wasn't a bit too
high ...
Some great scenes of destruction of quite adequate miniature sets in
this one, other than that it's pretty much business as usual. Of course,
it helps if you are like me into childish giant robot series to enjoy this
one - otherwise, don't even bother ...
