I Am a Rain Dog

Valentine Biltmore (Kris Salvi) got lost while driving cross country (even though he had nowhere to go to really), so he stops at the next motel to call a specialist (Fiore Leo) to get him back on track - and it soon becomes clear the specialist means this more in the metaphorical rather than the literal sense of the word, discussing philosophy with Valentine rather than geography. And ultimately he does get to the core of Valentine's problem - and it's a certain man (Justin Thibault) stashed away in Valentine's trunk ...

Now the concept of this movie is rather unique since it only slowly lets on what it's actually about (so much so that it seems to swing from genre to genre for quite a while), and the reveal at the ending thus comes totally unexpected. Now this is an experiment that can easily go wrong, but thanks to well-structured writing and clever dialogue, it works like a charm. And of course a solid cast and a subtle directorial effort help to make this one really worthwhile.
