Since her daughter Rachel has gone off to college, Cindy finds herself
with too much time on her hands - so, inspired by the adult pulp novels
she likes to read, she decides to have herself a live-in slave ... and a
newspaper ad brings cold, porcelain-faced Mara to her doorstep, a woman
who comes for an interview, but it immediately becomes clear the two women
understand each other without a word, and after having a (quiet) coffee
with each other, Mara starts cleaning Cindy's house. But she knows what's
expected from a good slave, so she leaves a duster where it doesn't belong
but Cindy is bound on finding it, just so Cindy has a reason to punish
her. But Cindy is not one to punish right away, which only heightens
Mara's anticipation and suspense, and when Cindy does punish, she does so
by sexually submitting and humiliating her new-found slave ... That
night, tomboyish daughter Rachel arrives home, and she quickly sheds her cloths to walk
around her house in the nude like she's used to, oblivious to the fact that
mum has a live-in slave now ... Later episodes of House
of Shame are quite explicit when it comes to sex, but this one
isn't. Actually there is little nudity at all in this one, and that's
reduced to the very end. Instead, we find ourselves at the beginning of
a master/slave relationship, told pretty much in real time and presented
as a mini-drama. Also, there is next to no dialogue in the whole film,
with the actresses speaking in gazes, expressing themselves through
body-language, which is greatly helped by a very subtle directorial effort
that creates an intimate atmosphere between the actresses and the camera
and that gets its point across without any kind of bluntness. Apart from
all of that, one just can't help but falling in love with the gallery of
vintage adult novel covers the audience is presented with at the beginning
of the film. If
