Ancient Greece: On the day she is supposed to be married to hero
Kleitos (Scott Elrod), Demetria (Amanda Brooks), daughter of the king (Ben
Cross) is poisoned. But Kleitos is not willing to accept her death, so
after conferring with a seer (Indra Ové), he collects a gang of braves
including his scholar brother Nikandros (Adam Butcher) and his best friend
Theron (James A.Woods) - who unbeknowest to all has actually killed
Demetria out of jealousy - and takes them to the underworld on a mission
to retrieve Demetria. Somehow,
against all odds, not without losses and with a fair amount of trickery,
this motley crew manages to free Demetria from Hades
(Oltin Hurezaunu), too, but then
Kleitos and Theron are cut off from the others, and Theron defeats Kleitos
and leaves him to die, in hopes to get his hands on Demetria this way -
against all odds though, Kleitos survives, catches up with the others,
challenges Theron to a duel and kills him ... but not for long since Hades wants Demetria back to marry her, but since he cannot
leave the underworld, he makes Theron his emmissary, and he even gives him
his hellhounds as companions. Losing men and women to the left and the
right, even a whole village and the girl (Olivia Nita) Nikandros has only just
fallen in love with, Kleitos has nevertheless no problems defending
Demetria and even killing Theron again, but then Demetria starts dying
because she has been in the underworld an hour too long, and now he needs
to brew her some medicine mixed from the spring at which the two of them
fell in love with with the blood of Hades - which apparently can be
squeezed from the leader of the hellhound-pack. Do I have to tell you
everything ends happily? An extremely cheaply produced fantasy
story set in Ancient Greece - and I want to make clear that I have nothing
against low-to-no budget movies, quite the contrary, as long as the story
fits the budget or can be made to fit the budget, that's fine - but this
film is almost a slap in the face, there are way too many corners cut to
remain believable. I mean, Ancient Greece is nothing but a few tents and
huts, location shooting could have been done in your very own backyard,
the underworld is nothing but a series of stone-walled corridors, the
journey over river Styx is represented by a flew splashes of water into
the cast's faces, and the hellhounds are bad CGI animations that don't
even make an effort to convince. Apart from that, the film's story is lame
to the point of being uninspired, the directorial effort is functional and
completely devoid of any sense of wonder a film of this kind desperately
needs, and the cast is made up from posterboys and -girls with only
limited acting range. In all ... what a waste of time!
