To get the promotion he needs at the magazine he works for, Michael
(Justin Andrew Davis) just needs to write a story that will make the front
page - which is easier said than done as the editor-in-chief (Timothy J.
Cox) isn't only hard to please but also extremely rude to his employees,
discouraging them from the get-go. And then there's also Michael's
colleague Beth (Ashley Kelley), who will stop at nothing to get the
promotion, which includes putting Michael down and spying on him every
step along the way, to make sure he'll not get ahead of her. What's worse
though, Michael finds himself without a story ... until he becomes friends
with Agatha (Leslie Lynn Meeker), an elderly woman who works as a
(slightly clumsy) secretary at the magazine, and who has at one point
become so lonely in her life that she has summoned a demon, Ricky (Steven
Trolinger). And despite being loud-mouthed and having bad manners and
everything, he has remained with her ever since, and while he loves
playing pranks on other people, he actually seems to have taken a liking
in her. Michael of course immediately sees a great story forming, titled
"The Good in Evil" ... but for the longest time, Ricky will have
nothing of it - until Agatha, who totally sympathizes with Michael,
persuades him to the contrary - and Ricky even starts to like being the
subject of an magazine article, even if he'd never admit it. But there's
still Beth to deal with, who's suffering from writers' block presently, so
she's more than determined to shoot Michael's article down, the quality
notwithstanding - and the slightly insecure Michael makes a good target,
too ... Hell-Bent is a really fun little comedy, as it
playfully negates audience expectations and turns many a genre mainstay
onto its head for rather hilarious results. Plus, the thing is really
well-told with many a surprise twist, and it's peopled by fleshed-out
characters. Now add to that a fittingly unexcited direction, and a very
able cast, and you've got yourself half an hour of good entertainment!
