Summer (Paige Smith), Wyatt (Cullen Ries) and Jamie (Phil Culton) have
all freshly graduated from college and come for a visit to their high
school buddy Landon (Will Bryant) - also Summer's boyfriend, who has never
joined them in college, as he hasn't been able to leave the house for the
last four years due to some uncpecified shock. Thing is, while nobody
doubts he has been traumatized, his excuses for not even trying to leave
the house grow increasingly thin, and especially Summer grows increasingly
impatient - sure, she loves him, but she also wants to see the world and
has been offered a job in another town hundreds of miles away ... so even
if she doesn't want to lose Landon, he's holding her back, and the fact
that he totally evades her questions every time she brings up the matter
don't do anything to calm her down. Problem though is, of late, Landon
seems to be getting worse, he starts to see things that really don't make
sense like dirt in his hallway, and ultimately thinks an ex (Stefani
Cronley) who has gone missing years ago has come back to warn him - and
she might or might not be dead ... A very interesting film that
takes a horror mainstay but turns it on its head and tells it as a
character study. And while the movie might be relatively low on suspense
and jump scares for it's horror premise, it's really nicely told,
compelling, and carried by likeable and relatable characters played by a
very solid ensemble cast. And a very restrained direction also helps to
keep the film going in a slow-burn way.
