No-nonsense tough-as-nails Rally Vincent and her maniac bubble-brained
sidekick Minnie May are running an gun store by day but are the top bounty
hunters of New York City - but they are less than lucky with their latest
catch, illegal armsdealer Jonathan Washington, because before they can
even collect any reward money, the police has to let him go due to lack of
evidence. Later, Washington is arrested again on minor charges, but cop
Bill Collins is quick to realize if he wants to bust Washington's
operations, he needs him outside - so he turns to Rally and May and
blackmails them into bailing Washington out under the pretense of wanting
to buy his weapons. Washington grows suspicious right away, but then again
he wants to get out of prison and thus he accepts, and later invites Rally
to his hideout to present her with a surprise: Officer Collins all tied up
for Rally to shoot, as a token of trust. Rally almost shoots him, too, but
then manages to free him instead and the two turn against Washington and
his men, who grossly outnumber them. The two of them manage to hold their
own though, but in the end it's Minnie May and her endless supply of
grenades (which she likes to set off, too) who saves the day ... Storywise,
this first episode of Gunsmith Cats might not sound like
much, but it's loads of fun thanks to its amazingly slick and fast-paced
direction and its (in more ways than one) explosive action sequences, but
also thanks to its very well fleshed out characters, its great character
designs and backgrounds, and of course also thanks to its very
light-footed approach to its subject matter that always borders parody
without ever becoming just plain silly. Loads of fun!
