Joe (Timothy Farrell) runs a pretty mean racket: He lures highschool
kids into his organization by promising them marihuana, just for kicks,
then he soon sees that they graduate to harder stuff (such as heroin),
sees to it that these young people all owe him money before long, and then
has them commit crimes for him, like stealing cars and the like. The
film mainly tells the story of two girls, June (Joanne Arnold), whom Joe
has just hooked on heroin and made his girlfriend - but that doesn't mean
he has forgotten the money she owes him, so he has her work for a realtor
whom she also has to do sexual favours - only to then frame him for rape. The
other story concerns Wanda (Mary Lou O'Connor), a marihuana-newby who just
wants to rise in the ranks of his organisation, even if that means
prostituting herself. The finale sees both June and Wanda taking part in
a gas station hold up that goes horribly wrong and ends with Wanda dying
from a bullet in her back while Joe and the rest of his gang get their
just desserts. Fun low budget drive in flick from the sleazy
end of the spectrum (even if not too much could be shown back in the
1950's of course), in which a rather feeble story is carried mainly by
blunt, in-your-face anti-drug messages, where all the plottwists are less
than likely and the acting is on the hilariously wooden side. And like all
great drug scare movies, this one exploits its topic to the fullest rather
than actually making its point. To put it another way, a truly bad film
- but great from a trashy point of view.
