Ruth (Shirley Grey) is boarding a train and is convinced she's being
followed. For some reason, she thinks Dick (Richard Talmadge), a naive and
harmless tractor salesman is after her. So she first befriends him to find
out what he's all about, and she even starts to like him in the process,
then she has him thrown off the train. Now that's a bad thing, because
Ruth is indeed being followed, but not by the harmless tractor salesman
but by a crooked lawyer (Carl Stockdale) who wants to cheat her out of her
inheritance and his henchmen. And now that Dick is gone, they finalyl feel
free to strike - and before you know it, Ruth is dragged off to the
(alleged) sanatorium of mad scientist Sandro Tito (Fred Malatesta), who is
supposed to give her amnesia once Ruth has signed over her inheritance.
One might want to note here though that professor Sandro Tito is scary as
hell - so much so that he even creeps out the lawyers tough-as-nails
henchmen - and ruthless as can be, but his experiments usually end up in
failure. Fortunately though, Dick has learned about the kidnapping plot
and by stealing a police car has succeeded in following her to the mad
professor's old dark house - where it doesn't take him long to walk into a
trap. But thanks to Sandro Tito's wife (Geneva Mitchell), who has long
been disgusted by her hubby's experiments, a drunk plumber (James
Guilfoyle), and last but not least the police, who have come to retrieve
their car, Dick manages to set things right after all, and get the girl in
the end. Now this is one enjoyable low budget flick: Starting
out as an action movie, Get that Girl gradually shifts into horror
territory of the old dark house variety, but it's held together by
almost nonstop acrobatic stunts (Richard Talmadge was one of the top
stuntman-actors of his time), a fast pace and a light-footed approach to
its subject matter. In all, the film is an hour well spent.
