Mueller (Nick Karner) is a self-centered restaurant owner who's much
more interested in bathing in his own success than actually paying his
celebrated chef John (David Berberian) - and yet John sees to it that he
is invited to Kitchen X, the most exclusive (while most secretive)
foodie event in town, where only top chefs, wine connoisseurs and food
bloggers are invited, and where only the most exquisite foods are
served. And even though all the other guests seem to talk down to Mueller
a bit, for him it feels like heaven - until he passes out that is, and
only when he wakes up he finds you why he really was invited ... Now
even though the key plot twist of Foodie is a little too easily
predictable, this is a fun little short, thanks to its very macabre,
almost grotesque approach to the story at hand, all the colourful
characters that populate the film, the surprise ending despite the
predictable plot twist, and also its subtle directorial effort, giving the
story room to deliver rather than burying it under grotesque imagery. Good
fun, really.
By the way, part of Hillbilly
Horror Show - Episode 4.
