Investigations on a murdercase force cops Dave and Ed to mingle with
the beatniks. And while they soon think Ed to be a poet when he treads
them from the penal code, Dave soon gets invited to all the right parties,
where two attempts at his life are made - one by poison, the other by bomb
-, but where he also meets lovely anthropologist Janet, with whom he soon
has an affair. Meanwhile, murders continue to happen, all similar in M.O.,
with one big difference: at some murders, a cat is involved, at others not
... could it be there are two killers ?
Be that as it may, Dave soon finds a clue that leads him to Brahm, a
mad painter who was involved in at least some murders, and for his
efforts, Dave is soon stabbed down by Brahm, but Brahm, who eventually
even takes a hostage to escape arrest, is finally shot down by the police
commissioner himself. Then though the commissioners cat runs away, and
pops up at a spot where two women just started having lesbian sex, when
one suddenly prepared to kill the other ... and wouldn't you know it, the
killer actually is Janet the anthropologist, who is in the end shot down
by the police who followed the commissioner's cat ...
As a whodunnit, Fat Black Pussycat is rather lame, and
plotholes, leaps of reason and wooden actors do of course not help much
... but the quite clichéd but totally tongue-in-cheek portrayal of the
beatnik scene does make this one a fun ride nevertheless. It might not be
a great movie, but it's definitely worth a laugh or two.
