The earth has been overrun by aliens who are very much into human
flesh, so not the best outlook for humankind ... and thus most humans have
fled the big cities to hide ... wherever they can really, and mostly
unsuccessful, too. All but Eddie (Charles Davis), a mentally challenged
man who has decided to stay at his home, figuring it would blow over if he
managed to lock himself up, in the meantime living on the chickens he has
raised. And he's doing pretty well even, managing to keep the aliens at
bay while even taking one of them, an outsider like himself, into his
"care", who he keeps in his basement in a baby's stead. The
loneliness doesn't bother him too much since due to his condition, he has
always been somewhat of a loner, so being a loner with no other people
around isn't too bad. But hey, he has even found a girlfriend, Diane, in
the ordeal. She's a woman from a couple of town's over who has like him
refused to leave, and they meet every other week or so. But that said, the
cards are definitely stacked against Eddie, so things just can't go right
for very much longer ... This movie is certainly one of the
"What the heck have I just seen?"-variety - and I mean that in
the most positive way. It pretty much takes the premise of Richard
Matheson's I
Am Legend, puts a mock documentary spin on it (which is
narrated by the most unlikely of narrators and might only happen in the
protagonist's head anyways), adds a good portion of madness, and films it
in the most unlikely style (many long static takes) one would shoot such a
film ... and the result is fascinating. Pretty much a genre movie that
defies all genre limitations - to wondruous results ... and thus well
worth a watch of course!
