Eric (Alan Calton), Matt (Dominic Vulliamy), Paul (Michelangelo Fortuzzi)
and Denise (Corrinne Wicks) have pulled off a pretty perfect heist and
stolen a priceless painting, a plan that had them all split up directly
after the crime, then recconvene at a house by sea with plans to leave the
country the very next day. Weirdly enough, Denise never shows up at the
house, but even, the painting that has been left in her care, does. Also
she's the mother of Matt, so she wouldn't abandon them. Soon enough, the
gangmembers start to suspect one another of having done away with her -
and then they're called away to the shoreline to help Opal (Lara Lemon)
and Noé (Sandrine Salyéres), who'd been in a boating accident, to help
them save their friend Pixie (Lily Catalifo, which they successfully do.
This lifts the spirits of our trio for a while as the girls aren't only
pretty and ready to party, they also seem to be into the boys. But then,
Eric, Paul and Matt all simultaneously fall into a trance, freak out the
girls and when they come to again, Matt and Opal are gone, and traces of
blood suggest the worst. But as our heroes still try to figure out what's
going on, it turns out falling into a trance isn't an isolated incident,
and it seems some force or other tries to pull them into the sea ...
Now if you like your horrors easily understandable and neatly explained
away, then this film isn't for you as it never resolves is central
mystery, in fact doesn't even try. However, if you enjoy a mystery for its
self's sake and just like to be creeped out, then you'll find plenty to
like here, as it's a mood piece that leaves one guessing throughout that
often follows nightmare logic rather than making perfect sense, that makes
great use of its somewhat dreary locations, and that's grounded by a solid
cast. Definitely worth a watch.
The Drowned will
be available on digital download from 6th October 2025 in the UK,
7th October in the US
and 8th October in Australia/New Zealand.
