Tomás (Rodrigo Noya) is just a harmless clerk at the local videostore who's pretty much spends all of his spare time taking care of his sickly mum /Alexandra Baldoni), collecting dolls and attending group therapy - where he meets Tina (Griselda Sanchez), a woman he feels immediately attracted to, even if she apparently has issues, like carrying a doll everyqhere whom she has adopted after losing her daughter, and who in her eyes is alive. She likes Tomás back, too, especially since he accepts her doll as her daughter substitute without reservations. It's only when he introduces her to his mother that Tina is in for a big (and horrifying) surprise ...

Enter inspector Porter (Alejo Garcßia Pintos), the new sheriff in Tomás's sleepy town, who soon realizes the village is so peaceful only because all problems are swept under the rug, like the three girls who have disappeared not long ago, girls whose fates seem to be clearly linked to Tomás's videostore, but these ties just have never been investigted because the case as a whole was just neglected ...

Now of course, this movie's naked premise makes this sound just like your typical genre piece, which would have been fine I guess, but the fact that the film really leans into its absurdities, at times plays like a dark comedy, and even allows spots of surrealism is what really makes the film work - in fact there's hardly a dull moment in this one, even if it very often just transcends the horror and thriller genres and goes its very own routes. And add to that a completely relatable cast, and you've got yourself a winner, however unusual it might be.
