Doll (Ashlee Mundy) leads a fairly secure yet dead boring life, being a
housewife married to an uncaring husband, Jack (John Michael Wagner), with
her only means of escapism being cheap crime novels and comicbooks. Enter
Bug (Jimmy Dalton), their good-looking and charming, bad-boyish new tenant
she feels immediately drawn to, even if she refuses to admit this to
herself - but her fantasy is really triggered when she sees a handgun in
Bug's waistband. And so, while her husband in the next room has no idea
what's going on and Bug is making a move on her, Doll muses over joining
him in a life of adventure - but everything is not always what it seems
... Above all else, Dime Crimes #34 is an incredibly
stylish movie. Though filmed in no more than a handful of rooms and
without much actual action going on, pretty much every shot of the film
looks as if lifted from a vintage film noir or the cover of a pulpy crime
novel. But that's not to say the film doesn't have a story to tell as well
- actually a rather interesting one as it s, and one that's excellently
carried by mostly very random and blatant dialogue, that does nothing to
move the story forwards, but is very fitting nevertheless. And add to a
pretty good ensemble cast, and you've got yourself a rather fine movie.
