  Highwayman Dick Turpin (Richard O'Sullivan) and his sidekick Swiftnick (Michael Deeks) are huddled up at Abby's (Hilda Braid) inn where they await for their fence Harry's (Peter Hill) return who's to bring them fare for their lodgings. However, Harry has run into the authorites, namely Sgt. Bullock (Michael Robbins) and Captain Venables (Anthony May), who are quick to figure out he's working on Turpin's behalf and ultimately force his whereabouts out of Harry. Meanwhile though, a certain Dr. Madragola (John Junkin) has also taken residence at Abby's and has turned to be a fake soothsayer, real drunk and borderline alcoholic. So when the authorities arrive at Abby's and the good doctor is drunk out of his mind, Turpin assumes his persona and presents the soldiers on his trail with a genuine horror show that drives them all away before he and Swiftnick defeat the sergeant and the captain in a fair and square duel.

A lively episode for sure, and one that's stronger on humour that many season 2 episodces, this one still falls flat on being among the mest as it basically lacks depth: Turpin's adversaries are presented as pretty much trait-free baddies, fence Harry doesn't even have a character arc (or all that much to say, really), and even the colourful character of Dr. Madragola is very suddenly written out of the episode. That said, at least the episode's well-placed by all involved, and there are quite a few laughs, it just falls short of its promise.
