Dick Turpin (Richard O'Sullivan) might be a highwayman, but he can also be a gentleman when he meets a damsel in distress - like Mary (Nicola Wright), a lowly maid who's to be raped by her master, rich kid Feversham (Simon Rouse) and his mates (Tony Bonczam, Marc Sinden). Dick has no problem showing them their places, but Feversham isn't one to take defeat easily ...
A few days later, Dick, still in gentlemanly mood, saves lady Catherine (Lindsay Duncan) and her maid Wimple (Julia Swift) from an overturned coach and brings them to his hideout where he and his sidekick Swiftnick (Michael Deeks) nurse them back to health - to then learn to their utter surprise that Catherine's of all people Feversham's bride to be - something that Dick can't prevent as the next morning Catherine steals his and Swiftnick's horses. However, a few hours later Wimple returns to beg for Dick's help as Feversham obviously abuses Catherine. So it's Dick to the rescue ... and he walks into a trap as Catherine's actually a boounty hunter, with Dick her latest and probably most prominent victim. However, Catherine's a bounty hunter - and there's a good bounty on Dick's head - not a monster, so when she learns that Feversham doesn't want to turn Dick over to the authorities and rather execute himself, she's taken over by guilt, especially when she witnesses Feversham drugging Dick and then challenging him to a duel, a duel Dick, despite all his talent and training, can't win. So eventually she fights and defeats Feversham in Dick's stead, experiencing an unlikely happy ending hi his embrace.

Now of course, a female character doing the heroics in a traditionally male-centered genre as the swashbuckler is always welcome, but other than that this episode is just a little too straight forward to really impress, with even the plottwists being pretty predictable. Not saying this is a bad episode though, it's lively enough, and the acting's all pretty decent, it's just not very memorable, especially when compared to earlier entries into the series.
