The morning after their wedding that apparently ended with them getting
roaringly drunk, Amy (Anika Contos) and Mitch (Jack Saalfeld) find
themselves in the middle of the desert the next day, with their car out of
gas and traces of violence on their body - and not the slightest idea
where exactly they are, how they got their, or what might have happened.
Or how to get back to civilisation. But there might lso be something
darker at work here ... Now one thing's for sure, Desolate
is beautifully and moodily shot and uses its locations to the fullest
advantage ... and that said, storywise the film just falls a tad short, as
in it does set up a bit of a mystery in the first act, then though makes
nothing out of it for the most part, instead shows newly-weds quarreling
and making up, before the final pay-off that just seems to be pulled out
of the hat to finally get the thing over with. Not a total trainwreck
perhaps, but it could have done with a bit of a more thought through and
structured story.
