Amy (Janet Miranda) wakes up from a nightmare where she was threatened
by clownlike villain Defarious (Jason Torres), and the nightmare leaves
her distraught enough to want to call a friend - but she can't find her
cellphone anywhere in the house ... and then she hears a noise, a glass
breaking, even though she's supposed to be alone in the house - and when
she goes investigating she finds herself facing exactly the villain from
her dream - but this time it's less than likely that she'll be able to
wake up again ... Defarious is a rather beautifully
executed exercise in horror filmmaking. Sure, the story tells little more
than what can be described as a standard scene in a slasher movie, but
it's told with panache, it's elegantly directed, used angles, colours (or
relative absence thereof), light and darkness to create both suspense and
atmosphere, is perfectly paced to keep the audience interested in its
simplistic story, and Janet Miranda does give a compelling performance. Well
worth a peek!
