Field reporter Alex (Emily Hughes) and her cameraman Neil (Mike Berube)
go to the morgue to follow up on some story ... and are attacked by
zombies that promptly kill Neil. Alex is only able to escape with th ehelp
of a stranger, Evans (Mike Joe Joe Little Jones), but the two of them
suddenly find themselves on the run from some horrible danger. On their
getaway though, they pick up two hitchhikers, foul-mouthed redneck Lucas
(Tom Hughes jr) and timid Dawn (Brandy Patterson) - and the tensions
between Evans and Lucas soon escalate. When the quartet looks for
shelter in a church, Lucas shows his true colours, and it turns out he's a
psycho who has kidnapped Dawn - and he starts shooting people dead,
beginning with Dawn and Evans. Alex though somehow manages to escape him
and lock him in with those he shot - and sure enough they come back as
zombies to eat him up. Alex tries to shoot her way out of the situation,
but a) are the zombies unkillable - even a shot in the forehead doesn't do
the trick - and b) does she soon run out of bullets. So she does what
every good field reporter would do, she grabs her camera and films until
the very end ... This very cheaply made zombie flick starts out
quite alright, with all the characters bickering over whatever situation
they are in to an extent whjere it gets intentionally funny. After some
time though, the overload of dialogue gets repetitive, clichéd even, and
does nothing to add to the suspense, quite the contrary - and that's where
the shortcomings of this amateur production start to show: The sound
quality leaves a lot to be desired, the actors are not quite up to their
jobs, the computer effects used for gunshots and splattering blood look
horribly fake, the editing is off most of the time ... and with a running
time of almost two hours, this film runs way too long. A promising start
maybe, but a disappointing result.
