Having just escaped prison, Burns (Todd Kimsey) and his men hide out at the creepy
inn of even creepier Doc (Edgar Allan Poe IV), and soon enough, they kill
the innkeeper's daughter Billie Jo (Kerstin Steinbach) and her boyfriend Bob (Mark
Jeffrey Miller), just to point out who's the boss around here ... but the
problem is that Doc is somehow in league with the devil, and thus Billie
Jo and Bob won't stay dead for long, and when they return, they bring a
bunch of zombies with them. First they take care of Burns' friends,
slaughtering them one by one, then they kill Burns - multiple times,
because they somehow always return him to life again. Surviving many
deaths, Burns somehow manages to make a getaway and he relocates to LA -
where Doc, Billie Jo and Bob soon catch up with him, just to shoot him in
a drive-by shooting for fun. Of course, Burns survives this as well, but
will he also be so lucky when he's caught up in a car explosion? Starting
out as a weird blend of Petrified Forest
and Night of the Living Dead done
the comedy way, this film soon veers off into macabre slapstick à la Evil
Dead 2 - without of course ever reaching the ingenuity of either
of these films. Instead, Dead Inn is a low budget horror comedy
that's somewhat charming due to its many macabre ideas and enjoyable, even
likeable if you don't expect anything extraordinary, but it's also less
than memorable let alone a masterpiece.
