Rosa (Moira Laband) is an artist who enjoys what she's doing, she's
reasonably successful, and she has a boyfriend (Manuel Martinez) who
supports her every step along the way - so one might argue she leads a
very happy life ... but that's all shattered when she receives a visit
from her mother (Debra Lamb), a typical career woman who has left her mark
on the fashion world, who thinks she has all the answers, and who doesn't
approve of her daughter's life as an artist - not so much because she
disapproves of art per se, but because Rosa refuses to make a career, a
business out of it. And of course, mum's often shallow and at times
hurting attitude doesn't help things one bit - to the extent that Rosa
even keeps her boyfriend a secret. But mum has her own story she keeps
bottled up ...
Cycles of Lune is a very involving little drama that isn't so
much about bringing big feelings to the screen as it is about nuances -
ultimately achieving a much greater impact because of it, also thanks to a
very subtle directorial effort and suitably taken back performances by
Moira Laband and Debra Lamb [Debra
Lamb interview - click here], who bring just the right
chemistry to the screen to make this work beautifully.
Well worth a watch.
