When driving through a canyon, Ellie (Chritina Ricci) & her teenage brother Jimmy (Jesse Eisenberg) cause an accident, but when they try to save a woman from the other car, they are bitten by a werewolf, which gradually turns them into werewolves themselves ... which is cool for Jimmy, who's in highschool, 6 pretty much a nerd, because nmow he has some extra strength to beat up the wrestling team that has been bullying him, & win the affection of highschool sweeteart Brooke (Kristina Anapau). It is not so cool on the other hand for Ellie, who works in the glitzy world of nightshow television, & who always goes wild everytime she sees or even smells blood - not the besdt of habits in showbiz enviroment.

However, eventually Jimmy's dog turns out to be a werewolf (?), too, as does Ellie's boyfriend Jake (Joshua Jackson) & her co-worker (& Jake's ex) Joanie (Judy Greer), while the highschool's head bully Bo (Milo Ventimiglia) turns out to be gay & in love with Jimmy, & eventually everything climaxes in a showdown in a nightclub, where Joanie, actually responsible for turning Ellie & Jimmy into werewolves, wants to take them out, because she, having been turned into a werewolf by Jake, wants him for herself, & the only way to achieve that, she figures, is to take out the competition. In the end though she dies, riddled by bullets supplied by the friendly neighbourhood SWAT team,  who splatter Joanie's brains on the floor (that should take out any werewolf.

Is this the end, is everything back to normal for Ellie & Jimmy with Joanie's death, since she caused them becoming werewolves ?

Of course not, there's still Jake, the first werewolf, who is the reason for it all, & he claims he did it all for Ellie, because only when she feels what he feels they can truly be together ... but Ellie is less than amused, especially when Jake mentions he has to take out her brother Jimmy, because there's only place for one alpha male, & so the siblings put up a fierce fight against Jake, & ultimately they decapitate him, upon which his head & body spontanuously go up in flames (talk about originality).

Now everything's back to normal, only that Jimmy now has a girlfriend in Brooke, while Ellie has to clean up the mess ...

Every now & again, Wes Craven is able to turn out a truly inspired horror film (see The Hills have Eyes or Nightmare on Elm Street, for example), while many of his films are just garbage. Cursed is of the latter category, a desperate attempt to update the werewolf-myth into the cool world of celebrity parties, glitzy clubs & highschools (oh no !), filled with cardboard cool characters. With all the updating Craven must have forgotten to infuse the story with any kind of atmosphere, the glitz & glamour world might be a great canvas to have Christina Ricci walk through, but it's not in the least bit spooky (or spooky for all the wrong reasons), so all the werewolf attacks look like out of some action flick with a really hairy villain (the werewolf make-up by Rick Baker, by the way, is less than impressive), hell the werewolves even do some Hong Kong style moves & jumps. & among all this the repeated  references to (the superior) 1940's Wolf Man are terribly out of place & pretty annoying. & the clöichéd highschool drama is just rock bottom.

A quick word on casting tv-stars in horror films, Joschua Jackson is from Dawson's Creek, Jesse Eisenberg from Gilmore Girls. & Mya, who plays an unimportant supporting role here, is the token pop star.
