In a post-apocalyptic world where monsters have taken over the night
and have butchered most of humankind with the survivors either wandering
the countryside looting for food and medicine, or hoarding food and
medicine in a comparatively safe place and defending it to the last, Erica
(Jessica Wolf), who has taken to looting, enters a building in search for
medicine, but is caught by its owners Nomba (Paul D. Savage) and Tony
(Juha-Pekka Mikkola), and since they're all armed to the teeth, it comes
to a stand-off. And while Tony wants to find a peaceful solution, Nomba is
for killing her - mainly because his brother (Ari Savonen has been shot by
a looter just like Erica. Tony manages to calm Nomba down and invites
Erica to stay the night. But Erica has a dark secret, she might have had
more to do with the killing of Nomba's brother than she dares to let on
... A really effective piece of suspense cinema that wastes
next to no time on exposition or explaining things away but pushes the
audience right into the story, building up suspense and never letting go.
And thanks to a solid direction that gets the most out of the limited
locations and actually downplays the monster angle for maximum effect, and
a strong cast, this has turned out to be a really good and rather
extraordinary genre piece.
