Tim's (Joey Burke) a heroin addict suffering from severe withdrawal symptoms - when he hears the voice of a Jacob (Jonathan Matthew Wilson), a boy that has fallen victim to human traffickers and who might be dead by the time Tim hears his voice. Jacob gives Tim relief from his pain and urges him to come to the aide of Kristy (Angela Mavropoulos) - a woman who, when Tim finds her, doesn't seem to require any aid at all and actually tries to get rid of him as she's waiting to be picked up by her boyfriend (Kristian Pierce) ... but then her boyfriend shows up and tries to shoot her dead, and it's only thanks to Tim that Kristy survives at all. Tim brings Kristy to a safe place, and it soon becomes apparent how all the pieces of this puzzle connect: Kristy's boyfriend is a small wheel in a child trafficking operation that has also abducted and killed Jacob, and now Jacob uses Tim, who despite being an addict has a good heart, to bring the traffickers to (earthly or heavenly) justice. But when Tim tries to go one-on-one with the head of the operation Rudolph (Joseph Lopez), he realizes he might have taken a bigger bite than he can chew on, and he and Kristy are soon taken captive by Rudolph and gang and tortured. Of course, Tim still has Jacob by his side - but who's to tell the spirit of this dead boy isn't just a figment of his drug-addled imagination?

A Child's Voice certainly is a kind of movie you don't see everyday, as it weaves together the genres horror, thriller, fantasy and even romance, resulting in a very unique story that's told with the required subtlety to stay believably while watching and thankfully chooses to not explain itself away but focus on tension and suspense instead. And a very solid cast only help to make this one movie that will most certainly please everyone who likes their genre entertainment beyond just by-the-numbers filmmaking and storytelling.
