It's Greta's (Anjali Nath) last play at the Middleton Theatre Society,
but things haven't been great in the small town of late, as several girls
have gone missing, which has created an atmosphere of uneasiness, and the
longer this has gone on, the more everyone has started to just suspect
everyone else. But still, this ought to be Greta's big day ... until one
of the actors is killed on stage, and the place is under immediate
lockdown, with Greta and four other actresses (Avril Dominguez, Allie
Hagen, Marin Nass, Lindsey Spohler) having to sit it out backstage. Soon
enough, the age old rivalry between Greta and co-star Anne (Avril
Doninguez) comes to full bloom, and Anne sure enough wins the upper hand
when evidence (though of a circumstantial nature at best) is found that
Greta might be the killer. She soon enough has Greta tied to a chair, but
since Greta's by no means out of resources yet, the situation soon
escalates ... A rather enjoyable little oddity that takes a
rather standard thriller/whodunnit plot, fills it with sharp dialogue to
keep the audience interested, but then uses many a directorial trick to
make the film as unusual as possible, playing the plot out in front of a
black background that gives the viewer absolutely no points of orientation
(or even feeling for space), like giving all the actresses the likenesses
(and first names) of vintage Hollywood Goddesses, or having the actresses
all give very stagey, slightly unreal performances. The result is one
rather unique yet very entertaining short.
