Private eye Eddie Drake (Don Haggerty) receives a visit from Mrs
MacElraith (Lucia Carroll), a socialite whose diamond watch was stolen in
a casino heist, and in order for her husband not to find out where she was
that night, she's prepared to pay any price to get it back. Investigating
the heist, Drake soon stumbles over a corpse, the casino's owner
Menchnikov (Shepard Menken), and Nixy (Whit Bissell), the actual culprit
in the case who admits to the heist (in Menchnikov's employ, actually) but
denies having anything to do the murder that was committed during the
heist. Then Nixey is shot though - and the case is blasted wide open to
Drake, who now invites both Mrs MacElraith and Menchnikov to a final
confrontation with his cop pal (Theodore von Eltz) waiting in the next
room to make an arrest. At the confrontation, Mrs MacElraith and
Menchnikov get into an argument, during which she shoots him - which is
the final proof Drake needed, as he now figures she herself shot the man,
a private eye like himself, during the heist to keep him from telling her
hubby about her shenanigans. Now she prepares to shoot Drake as well, but
his cop friend intervenes and arrests her just in time. Nothing
great, but a rather amusing little crime story that twists and turns often
enough to keep one interested.
