Way up North, in Canada actually: Jean Floray (Earl Dwire) is murdered,
by one crooked businessman, Enos Colwin (Robert Walker), and only Floray's
dog Rinty (Rin Tin Tin jr) is witness - and even he is shot at. Problem is
of course, Rinty can't talk, but Mountie Brad (Francis X.Bushman jr) takes
care of him anyhow and knows the dog will somehow help him find the
murderer. But during his investigations, Brad has to make some startling
discovery: That his sweetheart Caryl (Lois Wilde) seems to have embezzled
bonds from the company she's working at - incidently as Enos Colwin's
secretary.
When he questions her about it, Caryl even freely admits to it, but
only embezzled the bonds to save the company's investors from Colwin's
crookedness. She could even prove it if she still had the bonds, but she
sent them to her uncle, the deceased Jean Floray, and he has hidden them
god-knows-where.
Ultimately though, Rinty identifies Colwin as the killer nevertheless
and finds the bonds as well as vital evidence, and in the end Colwin gets
his just desserts while Caryl is cleared of all charges, and Mountie Brad
gets the girl (Caryl of course).
And Rinty ?
He has the last woof.
Cheaply but routinely made, unexciting murder mystery set in rural
Canada, so there are plenty of Mounties around - and of course Rin Tin Tin
jr, the less talented son (?) of RIn Tin Tin. Nothing to write home about.
