Jennifer (Jennifer Fraser) has just bought herself a new camera, which
she basically uses to document the life of herself and her husband Farhang
(Farhang Ghajar), which sounds really boring actually. But the two of them
have decided to kill someone in cold blood in their basement and capture
it all on film, just for the fun of it, and then bury the body, so seeing
them preparing and rehearsing for this takes their little home movies to
another level. Thing is, Jennifer is really into pulling through with
this, while Farhang more and more grows disgusted by the prospect of
killing people, especially when Jennifer kills a cat right in front of
him, just to practice. He also dissuades Jennifer from kidnapping and
killing an absolute asshole (Rich Piatkowski), hoping to end the madness
for good this way - but then Jennifer invites a perfectly harmless and
innocent homeless person (Jon Gates) to their home for dinner, drugs him
and then proceeds to kill him and saw his body apart, with the help of
Farhang, who's really undecided what's bigger, his genuine love for his
wife or his utter disgust and guilt. However, after the body is disposed,
tensions between the two only grow, as Farhang longs to just go back to
the way things were - but Jennifer seems to have other ideas, so it's only
a matter of time until things come to a head ... So ok, Capture
Kill Release is a found footage film, a genre I have to admit I'm not
very fond of ... but this movie pulls it off, as it shows that good
storytelling that integrates the approach into the narrative can make a
big difference and draw the audience in. Plus, people in a macabre frame
of mind will surely appreciate the movie's dark humour (along with all the
bloody bits). And add to that a real cool cast with a lead couple with
real chemistry, and you've got yourself a really good movie - even if it
is "found footage" ...
