The villain and mad scientist Mano Negra (David Silva), who ocommands
the wrestler Black Shadow and an army of midgets he can temporarily turn
into superstrong ... well, midgets, wants to do something villainous, and
to that end, he has to see to it that this gang of wrestlers, the
Champions of Justice - teamleader Blue Demon, Mil Mascaras, El Médico
Asesino, Sombra Vengador and Tinieblas - are put out of commission, which
is easier said than done because on one hand, the wrestlers seem to have
no problems ducking machinegun bullets (wow !) and on the other Mano
Negras super midgets seem to lose their superstrength every time they seem
to be defeating the champions. However, Mano Negra soon has a good idea:
Why not kidnap the five goddaughters of the five wrestlers - who all run
for Miss Mexico (the girls, not the wrestlers) - to ... well, I don't know
to what end exactly since kidnapping their goddaughters is bound to make
the wrestlers even more eager to track down Mano Negra, but oh well.
Anyways, he eventually plans to use them in his brainwashing experiments
and deepfreezes them to that end (don't ask) ...
Much action then ensues, during which Sombra Vengador is kidnapped by
Mano Negra's men, and while Blue Demon and Mil Mascaras investigate (and
soon save the girls), El Médico Asesino and Tinieblas take it upon
themselves to protect Elsa (Elsa Cárdenas), Sombra Vengador's girlfriend
- however, she turns out to be one of Mano Negra's accomplices and lures
them into a death trap, and it's only fortunate that Blue Demon and Mil
Mascaras stop by just in time to save them.
Then the four wrestlers attack Mano Negra's hideout - Blue Demon has
just remembered where he has been hiding out the last time the two clashed
- beat his midgets to a pulp, help Sombra Vengador, who has since been
brainwashed, remember who he really is, and see to it that Mano Negra's
lab goes up in flames. Only Mano Negro seems to escape after he takes a
pill and turns invisible ...
Of course, this film is basically a low budget piece of trash that
doesn't make all that much sense and is rendered somewhat silly by too
many masked wrestlers and superpowered midgets - but that's what makes Los
Campeones Justicieros so irresistable: Seeing grown men in silly masks
pretending to wrestle (and been beaten up) by midgets in even sillier
costumes is nothing if not hilarious, the plot and its plottwists are in a
good way ridiculous and the clumsy action scenes as such are quite simply
endearing.
Of course, you simply must not take this film seriously, but if
you see it from its funny side, you will be wildly entertained.
Recommended.
