It should have been a harmless diving trip, but somehow our heroes -
Sara (Silke), Ivan (Unax Ugalde), Edgar (Andrés Gertrudix), Victor
(Adrià Collado), his pregnant wife Thais (Diana Lázaro) and young their
guide Drui (Mustafá Jawara) - end up in the holding bay of a smugglers'
ship ... and the smugglers have already proven that they are not to fond
of stowaways and rather throw them overboard with their throats cut.
Now that is bad enough, but then, when fetching a first aid kit from an
upper deck, Victor is seen by one of the crewmembers of the ship ... so
they all decide it's the best if Victor gives himself up but claims he has
come aboard alone.
Victor gets badly beaten up but not killed, so the others decide to
save him, but one of the sailors, Salomon (Juan Fernandéz) is extremely
violent, and when he finds Thais leaning over her hubby, he shoots her and
him both. Upon witnessing that, the others take off in a hurry to their
little hideout, but another one of the sailors (Hector Claramunt) follows
them, and to stay undetected, our little group of heroes has to kill the
soldier, then place him in his bunk as if sleeping to buy a little time.
Ultimately though, our heroes are found out, and while Ivan and Edgar
can leave the ship in a lifeboat and Drui is small enough to hide just
about everywhere, the ship's captain (Lluís Homar) soon gets hold of Sara
- but is bitten by a poisonous snake when doing so. To force the others
back to the ship, the captain places Sara inside a cage and slowly sinks
it into the water, but somehow, Ivan dashes to her rescue unseen, and when
in the end Ivan finds himself in mortal combat with Salomon, the captain
realizes who are the good and who are the bad buys here, and he shoots
Salomon, just before he himself breathes his last.
And our heroes are saved ...
At times this is a very tense little thriller, filled with cleverly
executed scenes of suspense, that make one even overlook the rather uneven
and at times downright silly script. Unfortunately this is all thrown
overboard (excuse the pun) for a cheesy, predictable and suspense-free
finale that seems to be right out of a Hollywood blockbuster (and I don't
mean that in a good way) which pretty much ruins the film in retrospect.
What a pity !
