There has been an alien attack that has annihilated most of humankind,
or teleported them to someplace else, who knows. In fact, the aliens were
so dilligent getting rid of us humans that it seems they've only forgotten
Eva (Karina Velasquez) and Fausto (Juvel Vielma), who had been a couple
before the attack but had long separated - but now they depend on one
another in order to survive. Not so much that there are any threats out
there, it's more a question of food on the table, really. Thus their
relationship is more of a co-existence than anything else - until another,
maybe the only other, survivor steps into their life, Dafne (Ananda
Troconis), a very outgoing and positive woman who turns not only Fausto's
but also Eva's head and who brings a whole new dynamic into their lives -
a dynamic that shows though how fragile their relationship, if you can
call it that, actually is ... A very interesting and unique
take on the post doomsday genre, as it spares little (some might say too
little) thought on how humankind (or most of it) actually got extinct and
concentrates on the aftermath, not so much from a survivalist but from a
psychological and philosophical point of view. As a result, this movie is
character- rather than spectacle-centered piece that uses the utmost
subtlety and veiled symbolism instead of all-out action to tell its story
- and the outcome is quite fascinating, a piece of end-of-time cinema that
makes one think about one's own race, and its actual usefulness for the
planet.
