It's a safe bet to say many of the readers of this here little website
are into indie horror, do know about the underbelly where horror still
thrives while in big budget Hollywood the genre has long relegated to
being an endless screen of bloodless (both literally and figuratively)
sequels and remakes. And Johnny Daggers, an indie horror director in his
own right, has taken it upon himself, to not only talk about his own
career but to interview many a fellow horror guy (quite some of whom are
friends of this site) for their stories, their advice, their take on
horror today and how the genre has developed in the last 10, 20 and even
30 years, both in the mainstream and the indie world, including the rise
and fall of horror magazines, today's importance of social media, and
similar subjects. Other topics discussed are launching one's own projects,
even without any training in filmmaking, the relative futility of shooting
permits, and much much more. The fun thing about the whole
thing though is that it's not just a dry documentary on the subject of
indie horror filmmaking, but that it's peppered with many an anecdote and
punchline, and with some really wild trailers of obscure (even to me)
movies, odd outtakes and a rather hilarious host section starring Bianca
Allaine. Now truth to be told, this is not an instruction video about how
to make your own movie, but it doesn't claim to be ... but it sure enough
is plenty of fun for not just the genre enthusiast - and it might just
leave you with the craving to pick up a camera and make your own horror
movie!
